Carl Kauba (1865-1922)
Carl Kauba was a European who never actually visited North America. Yet, he poured over all the literature and photographs of the "Noble Savage" that proliferated toward the end of the nineteenth century and he collected a large assortment of Indian trappings and paraphernalia. He was a master sculptor and his bronzes clearly exhibit his knowledge and skill. His work, which is well known for it's movement and action, also exhibits the dignity and pride that we now understand of Native Americans. Carl Kauba's bronzes are an excellent addition to any collection of Western Art.
