James Earl Fraser
If you ever find yourself in Tulsa, Oklahoma, don't miss the chance to visit the Cowboy Hall of Fame. As you enter you will see Fraser's most famous work, "End of the Trail", in an original plaster. It's huge and beautifully displayed under a wonderful glass dome roof. It is truly breath-taking, making for a visit you will never forget.
James Fraser was born in Winona, Minnesota in 1876, making him younger than Remington or Russell, but still during the final days of the free roaming American Indians. Perhaps it was the demise of that lifestyle, which has become so poignant to Americans, was his motivation in creating this masterwork. This sculpture is perhaps second to only the Statue of Liberty in recognition. He was a prolific sculptor and this is his most famous piece, which is why we have recast it in so many sizes. James died in 1953 and hence has been recognized as one of America's greatest.
